How I've been doing as an Artist so far in the past year.
It has been three months since the beginning of the year, roughly six since I have been taking commissions more frequently, and quite a good while since I switched to my current pricing. From this experience, I can say that my prices with my pacing don't make it as much as I would like. I often just barely make my goal, and sometimes ending up in an overloaded state between projects to reach it.
One of the reasons I have this struggle is that I am also working on another large project behind the scenes to try to help myself financially, too. I am making artwork for Calendars and Prints to be released in November, and they are some rather large works. I am looking to create a more long term financially stable situation for myself since Commissions are basically living paycheck to paycheck right now. I am not taking Commissions for the second half of Months in order to work on some print-quality artworks.
I am planning on keeping up on this type of project from here on, too, so with that in mind I feel like I will need to re-evaluation my commissions again soon. I am even thinking about making some YCHs of my higher quality artworks in order to advertise them more. I don't get many large project commissions, and so my examples are skewed heavily towards sketches and chibi. I don't know when I will raise my prices, but I already know about how much I will raise them when I do. I just don't really know about when.
End Thought Organizing.
